West Coast Modern Design Rooted in Nature

Designed by BLA Design Group, this home embodies West Coast modern architecture with thoughtful nods to its Pacific Northwest surroundings. Standing seam metal cladding and naturally stained cedar siding provides durability against Vancouver’s frequent rain while blending with the forested environment.

A Fusion of Cultures in Every Detail

This residence artfully integrates the family’s heritage into the design. A topographic sculpture of Hangzhou, displayed in the entryway, anchors the home in the family’s roots. Slatted wood walls, reminiscent of traditional Chinese “ping feng” room dividers, create a soothing ambiance while allowing light to flow naturally. Furniture and décor sourced directly from China add elegance and cultural significance to the space.

Textured Tones That Reflect Vancouver’s Landscape

The home’s interiors are a study in earthy tones, featuring browns, beiges, and greys inspired by Vancouver’s moody skies and lush forests. Warm wood finishes complement the textured materials, creating a cosy, inviting, and sophisticated space.

“The family’s culture and roots are expressed through furniture, interior details, color, and tone,” says BLA Design Group co-founder Jesse Basran.

Collaborative Design for Modern Living

Designing this 380-square-metre, four-bedroom home was a true collaboration. Jerry Liu, co-founder of BLA Design Group, explains, “Significant time was spent with the family to ensure every detail reflected their values and needs.” The result is a thoughtful blend of functionality and aesthetics, offering expansive open spaces and calming areas for refuge.
