Located in the hustle and bustle of vibey Sea Point, Sweet Orange Boutique Hotel has recently undergone a major renovation, bringing a modern flair to this historic Victorian home and offering a quick escape for the ideal weekend getaway.
When chatting to the new owner Zack Kellerman, he mentions, ‘We wanted the hotel to have a real Cape Town feel. Asking ourselves the question, what is Cape Town? Cape Town is colourful and vibrant, it is friendly, it's beachy, it's inviting- but most importantly, it is your home away from home.’ The focus is to give guests a perfectly personalised and curated experience in Cape Town. There is an easy commute to and from where you need to be with its ideal location, as well as great food tailored to your dietary requirements, not forgetting the endless amounts of activities to choose from whether indoor or outdoor is your style.
When it came to acquiring the hotel, Zack shared with us, ‘The buying of the guest house was an impulse decision I made in less than 24 hours. It is probably not the best way to make such a big decision - but I could see all the potential within this beautiful Victorian heritage home. Its beauty and style were there but it just needed a little TLC.’ With the help of his sister, Zack and the team got underway with revamping and renovating. They were sure to keep the essence of the home intact and preserve all its history, just providing a much-needed facelift to kick off summer 2022.
The design remained simple but beautiful, with pops of new design mixed in with the existing space. ‘By mixing modern design with the old Victorian style of the house we wanted that contrast to be a positive relationship. We brought in exciting colours and prints to create a feast for the eyes, but still keep it relaxed and homely.’ says Zack. Most of the furniture items in the home were either made or purchased sustainably, making this hotel an eco-friendly space with sustainable living. Zack shares with us, ‘The Nguni skins were from Robertson, the couches from Somerset West and home decor from Muizenberg and Melkbosstrand. We scoured every corner of Cape Town for hidden gems that help to bring this hotel together.’
The hotel sleeps a total of 8 guests in 4 bedrooms, so while it is ideal for a couple, it could also be great for larger groups who could book the whole space. An added bonus is being pet-friendly, provided notice is given before your arrival (we love a place that cares for our fur friends as much as we do). All the added extras like bikes to hire, continental breakfasts, laundry services or extra bedding are all part of the great experience you can have at Sweet Orange Boutique Hotel.
