A South African culinary staple, seven colours is one meal that can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Award-winning chef, food stylist and TV personality Zola Nene is back with her third cookbook called Simply Seven Colours. And yes, the name gives it away - it’s all about the popular dish that usually consists of meat, veggies in a variety of ‘colours’.
You’ve probably seen Zola on Expresso Morning Show, where she’s been the resident chef since 2010. No stranger to being in front of the camera, she has her own YouTube channel and was a Masterchef SA season 4 judge. Recently, she worked with the legendary Gordon Ramsey on the second season of National Geographic’s series, Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted.
The recipe developer went on to launch her first cookbook, Simply Delicious, followed by her second book Simply Zola.
According to the official Penguin website, ‘The idea of Simply Seven Colours is for you to create your own unique seven-colour menu, by picking recipes from different chapters or ‘colours’. From green, yellow, orange, brown, white, red, a rainbow of colours and, of course, desserts to round off your seven-colour meal’
South Africa is a culinary melting pot and if you’re wanting to brush up your cooking skills, supporting a local chef is the way to go. Alternatively, if you’re looking for gift ideas for the food enthusiast in your life, a cookbook makes for a great present at any time of the year.
