Across Africa, lodges, camps and hotels are harnessing the continent’s rich – and hugely varied – design cachet and celebrating cultural heritage with authentic travel experiences that curate a sense of place. Each celebrating its location’s uniqueness in the context of great diversity. This of course extends an invitation for African travellers to visit Singita Mara River Tented Camp in Tanzania.
Located on a riverbend in the Lamai Triangle – with a front-row seat to the annual migration as the herds make their way from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in Kenya – Singita Mara River Tented Camp personifies outdoors-embracing adventure.
Its recent reimagining distils this spirit still further in a bold, contemporary design that celebrates the setting, scenery and the spirit of safari.
While the footprint of the camp remains the same, the interiors have been entirely updated – inspired by the context it sits in – grasses, trees and rocks provided the tonal and textural palette, while the region’s Masai tribes’ signature geometric patterns and bold primary colours feature as occasional accents in artwork and accessories.
The redesign also conveys the idea of impermanence – apt for a tented camp – through modular design elements that optimise space while playfully alluding to adventure. The intensity of the plains during the day is balanced by comfort and ease back at the camp.
The food and wellness offering has evolved, too – to embody this sense of ease through refined but informal fare with an African slant. Despite its reinvention, however, the identity of the camp remains intact – intimate, with personal service and a peaceful sense of remoteness that make it a truly unique way to experience the Serengeti.
