Placing Zambia’s Lower Zambezi on the proverbial map in terms of ground-breaking safari design, Lolebezi - conceived and created by Fox Browne Creative and operated by African Bush Camps, who are longterm collaborators - was devised to make an impact on the industry with an authentically Zambian experience that challenges the norms.
Its remarkable location, on the banks of the river and immersed in a winterthorn thicket – which characterises this unique biosphere – prompted much of the direction. Fox Browne, with architect Jack Alexander came up with a concept that balances traditional lodge elements with something altogether new and viscerally linked to the landscape.
Built in symbiosis with the river, the lodge has sweeping views up and down the waterway, which supports the huge diversity of life here – highlighted by the proximity of bountiful elephants. The spaces were designed to connect with the setting and spark curiosity – tactile natural textures and context-appropriate materials allude to the scenery, while unexpected shapes and details create a tension between comfort and engagement.
In terms of daily activities, the setting is the hero too - expect driving, boating and fishing with your expert guide, morning coffee and afternoon drinks at the scenic firepit, and surprise excursions for meals in the bush, or simply wallowing in your private pool looking out onto the river.
