There are some things that foodie community seems to love time and time again. In this case, the viral sushi bake trend has been blowing up social media feeds since around 2020/2021. People love seeing their favourite foods being done in a new way, but it can also be a polarizing topic. Now, we’re not saying don’t enjoy your sushi as is, but if you’re wanting to explore new things in the kitchen, this could be the recipe for you.

The aim of the dish is to take all the elements of sushi that you love: rice, seafood/fish and other condiments (think soya sauce, kewpie mayo and the like) and turn it into a casserole dish that’s great for hosting. The bake is simple to assemble and can be enjoyed with roasted seaweed.

The best part is that you can adapt the sushi bake to fit the flavour profiles you’re aiming for. If you want to splurge and use salmon you, or go ahead and substitute it for imitation crab, tuna or prawn meat. Alternatively, you can aim to recreate your fave sushi order - think California rolls or Maki.

One of the key factors through the customisation of this meal is that you can accommodate quite a few dietary requirements, and ensure the dish is gluten-free or dairy-free.

The options are endless, which makes it a crowd favourite. Will you be trying a sushi bake this year?
