A good cup of coffee is key to the start of a good morning for so many. There’s something about having that routine that grounds your day. But, there are various ways to make a cup of coffee. For some, it’s filter coffee all the way, while other swear by a moka pot. It was recently International Coffee Day (1 October) and if you don’t know where to start, here’s where you can get started.
Moka pot
A chic addition to any kitchen, the moka pot is a coffee brewing device that can be an easy, inexpensive way to elevate your coffee making experience. A product of Italy, the moka pot was conceptualised by Alfonso Bialetti (and you may have spotted the brand in a speciality shop) in 1933. Originally a European staple, the moka pot is now a global staple and is an easy, portable and relatively cheap way to get your daily cup.
Coffee grinder
If you’re thinking about becoming a coffee enthusiast, one of the essential tools you’ll need is a coffee grinder. Why? Well, being able to grind your own beans means you get the most of the coffee you have. You make it fresh as you need, and get a consistent grind which in turns mean, a better brew.
Chemex coffee maker
Once you’re ready to take it to the next level, it’s time for a Chemex. Created in 1941, the glass, pour-over coffee maker is a staple on serious coffee lover’s Instagram feeds. It looks beautiful on a kitchen counter but also is renowned for being one of the best coffee makers around. The design is unchanged since it’s inception and it comes in a 3-cup to 6-cup variant. Do note, you’ll need to get additional filters to brew your coffee.
